Textile Pests

The term "textile pests" is used to denote insects which feed on animal fibres such as wool, fur, feathers and silk. These materials are not attacked whilst still attached to a live mammal or bird.

Textile pests include several beetles and moths. The adult beetles are no more than 10mm long, and the adult moths have a wingspan of no more than 25mm.

Examples include:

  • Carpet beetle
  • Case-bearing clothes moth
  • Common clothes moth
  • Tapestry moth
